This was my most challenging quilt so far. It is full of mistakes, but I was happy with the end result. I gave up many times, questioned my sanity and had numerous headaches with this one. I'm glad I stuck with it because I learned so much making this, as I do with every single quilt I make. It is a pattern from
Love of Quilting. I just added my son in laws name to the bottom. I was in a hurry to gift this one and wish I'd gotten better pictures.
This quilt was made from a Sweet Jane pattern, you can find it
here. I used the Moda Ruby line from Bonnie & Camille. This was my first time using thread that wasn't white on the quilting. I was a bit nervous using gray thread, but it worked. I pieced the back using leftovers.
My soccer triangle quilt. This one made.me.cry. It was my first attempt at a triangle quilt, and lucky for me, you can't see my BIG mistake too well in the photo. I had the rows together, that went great...so I thought. When I joined the rows together and opened it up, not! My points were gone, gone, gone! Looking back, I should have seen there wasn't a 1/4 inch at the top to avoid this. Live and learn! Because the points were gone, I couldn't properly quilt alongside the triangles. Instead I did straight lines, and it turned out well. I chose a soccer ball fabric from Hobby Lobby and Kona Solids. The back is simple strips across the bottom. Despite the problems, I still love it. This was the first quilt I named, and it suited it very well... Missing The Point.
A simple baby quilt made with a charm pack of Riley Blake's Willow fabric line and solid Kona white. I didn't follow a pattern with this one. Just added white to two sides and turned the blocks in different directions.
I am very disappointed I didn't get close up and better pictures of this quilt. It truly is beautiful. I used the tutorial from Moda Bake Shop, Charming Stars. You can find it
here. I did change the layout because I don't care for square quilts. I used Moda Dogwood Trail by Sentimental Studios.
This mini wall hanging was a fun one to make. I used
this tutorial from Pitter Putter Stitch. It was my first use of the Dresden ruler and doing anything in a circular fashion. The quilting is not perfect, but not horrible for a first try either. I used all scraps for the wheel. The binding is Remix Stripes Bright by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman.
A baby quilt made from Aneela Hoey's Posey line for Moda. My friend
Brandy
was so kind and shared part of a layer cake with me. It was my first
time seeing Aneela Hoey's fabric in person and she is now one of my
favorite designers. I used this
4 Step Flagstone tutorial.
This was also a fun and very quick quilt to put together. For the back I
had 6 layer cakes left, so I made tilted blocks. I quilted it with
random straight lines, it's super cute! This one went to my newest grand
daughter.
This circle baby quilt also did not photograph well, and again, I didn't think I would be blogging. I have discovered quilts with lighter fabrics are tricky to get great photos from. They don't receive the justice they are due, at least from a distance. It has a funny line showing in the center, it was from being folded up and I had to grab a picture while I had a quilt hanger available! It is made using a charm pack of Riley Blake's Willow fabric. Random straight line quilted. This went to my next to last grand daughter. They were born just several weeks apart :)
This quilt is, well...disappointing. It went together nicely but the fabric choices with this pattern do not work. This is one of the first fabrics I purchased (this quilt belongs in the 2012 section but I couldn't get it added in there). In person the blues are just beautiful. I held onto it for quite awhile. It is the Summer Breeze II line by Sentimental Studios for Moda. I decided to put it to use in a lap quilt for my husband. The beauty of the fabric got lost in the quilt pattern somehow. I do not like it. That's all I have to say about this quilt...
I really like the flagstone baby quilt, looks reasonably quick to do (always good I find!) but still very effective, and the back is perfect for it. I love the quilting on your circle quilt too, are they just machine appliqued circles? I know how you feel with the quilt photography, I really struggle with mine, but the quilt still looks great.
ReplyDeleteHi Sally! Yes the flagstone is very easy and fast. It's a fun one to put together! I did machine appliqued the circles on, my first time doing applique and it went well. I wish I had better pictures because it really is pretty. I appreciate your kind words!
DeleteThey are all gorgeous! Love your colour choices. I started quilting only 2 years ago and now I just want to quilt all the time. Very recently, I have started my own quilting blog to share my love for quilting. I will try some of your patterns you shared here. I look forward to seeing more quilts from you! ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I have only been quilting almost 2 years as well, it's very addicting, I agree! Glad you found some things you would like to try :) I appreciate you stopping by!
DeleteYou do great work! And a lot of it...I like that!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! This year hasn't been as productive due to my health but I do what I can!
